IKU Department of International Relations

International Relations is an interdisciplinary field of study for undergraduate and graduate students. The rapid increase in the number of international states and non-state actors and the intensification of their mutual relations since the second half of the twentieth century made it necessary to examine international relations under an independent discipline.

The International Relations discipline examines states, international organizations and non-state actors, which are the main actors of the international system, within the framework of all their characteristics, historical backgrounds and interactions. The structure and functioning of institutions that constitute states, which are the main actors, their foreign policy-making processes, political and economic relations constitute the main topics of analysis. In order to analyze and interpret the multidimensional relations between the states themselves and with other actors in terms of cooperation or conflict, many disciplines including history, economy, political science, law and philosophy are used.

An enjoyable interdisciplinary study awaits students who wish to study International Relations. The primary objective of the IKU International Relations Department is to equip students with the basic knowledge and scientific perspective in the field and to raise them as experts with a scientific formation so that they can understand and interpret international developments analytically.
